Gsec Security is interested in anything that improves the physical protection of your property, and the people that might work in or visit that property.
One of the most important factors that we have seen in recent months is how to defend a property against a vehicular intrusion.
There are a couple of reasons this is important, primarily for a business.
If you have retail premises, or a location where there is any volume of stock or inventory on hand, then even the best-monitored security can be foiled.
A ‘professional’ team will be able to access your property, and depending on the level of security, be in and out within minutes. It is important that you not only provide security services and alarms but to take care of the physical aspect of the security.
Since the removal of stock form a premises, in order to be worthwhile to a thief, will require the removal of a volume of stock. This will necessitate the use of a van or truck to gain close access to the property in question. It is also not uncommon for a robber to gain access to a property by ramming the property with a stolen vehicle. It provides fast and immediate access to a property. Done at the right time, access can be gained fast and the would-be thieves in and out within minutes with your property.
We have recently been installing bollards around commercial premises to defeat such attempts.
And due to better technology, these bollards are not the unsightly ones that you may have been used to in the past.
Correctly installed bollards are placed near large plate glass windows and other parts of your building that can be easily accessed by a ramming vehicle.
You can also get bollards that are removable while your business is operating, and then replaced to provide safety at times when you are closed. This is great for locations that have large roller doors like warehouses.
Bollards can be provided that fit with the aesthetic of your location and not distracting.
An additional benefit, and in some instances may even be the primary use of such bollards, is to protect your staff, customers or other members of the public from vehicles.
It is a fact of life in a city such as Melbourne that there are some that may wish to commit random acts of violence and cause physical harm and injury.

And without assuming that the slim chance of this occurrence may happen to you, it is somewhat more likely that a slight mistake by a driver in a car park or on a busy road may send a car or even a truck in the wrong direction. Accidental damage done a building is a possibility in many locations. Go outside of your business property and look for your self locations where this may happen to your business.
I came across an associate recently who has a business premise located just off a busy intersection in Melbourne. While the site appeared set-back from the intersection, it none-the-less occurred that a minor accident at that intersection on a wet night sent a car into a supporting wall of her building. The result was that waiting for emergency repairs and insurance assessment and then eventual repairs saw her unable to use her business property for several days, and further inconvenience for a couple of weeks.
We never really expect this to happen to us, and of course, that is not the point. but the truth of it is, like insurance, a small cost now can mitigate a much greater cost later. If you don’t have it then it can cost you down the track, and if you do have it, you may never use it. It does pay off to be prepared.
The best example on the market for bollards is the Saftyflex bollards. These are the ones chosen by the Melbourne City Council to protect pedestrians in the Melbourne CBD (and replacing the ugly temporary concrete barriers).
These barriers are nothing less than brilliant engineering.
The barriers are dug into the ground just 200mm, making installation easier – other barriers can be set into the ground as much as 1000mm.
Despite the small footprint, the bollards are rated to stop up to a 7.5-tonne truck. This incredible feat is accomplished by an ingenious system of springs that convert the forward momentum back in the direction that it was created from. In other words that forward energy of a car or truck crashing into the bollard is reflected back to the vehicle not into the pedestrian or building behind it.

In this way it actually destroys the attacking or accidentally driven vehicle, rendering it unable to further be driven. So not only has the initial attack been thwarted, but that vehicle can no longer be used to perpetrate a further attack.
Gsec has access to this incredible product (as well as other models of bollards) and has the staff to correctly and expertly install the bollards. Our team, will asses your site and determine the correct number and location of the bollards.
